Choosing an agent

Choosing a military relocation agent

This page does not rate or compare agents. It lists what to look for and what to ask, so you can judge any agent yourself.

Updated 2 November 2026.

What MRP means

Military Relocation Professional (MRP) is a certification from the National Association of Realtors. NAR says it prepares agents to serve active duty service members, veterans and their families, including PCS moves and VA loans (NAR, read 2 November 2026).

It shows an agent has done that training. It does not tell you how they work. The questions below do.

What to ask any agent

  1. Do you hold the MRP certification? Ask, then check how they describe it on their own site.
  2. Which gate would you plan around for me? A good answer starts from where you report, not from where they list homes.
  3. How do you run a purchase when I can't be here? Ask about live video walkthroughs, who attends the inspection, and how signing works from another duty station.
  4. How do you time closing to a report date? And what is the plan if the orders slip.
  5. Have you closed VA-backed purchases recently? Ask them to walk you through the VA appraisal step and what tends to come up.
  6. Can I talk to a military family you helped? One reference call tells you more than a web page.
  7. Do you have a business relationship with anyone recommending you? Ask any guide, list or website that points you to an agent. This one does: Jessica Mackrael, the featured agent here, is a client of AI Syndicate, which publishes this guide.

Talk to more than one agent before you sign anything, and compare the answers.
